Instructional Illustration; Using a Transparency Tube

Description:

This illustration shows a person in the process of using a transparency tube to evaluate the transparency (A.K.A turbidity) of water. This process involves collecting water from the target water source, pouring some into the transparency tube, and determining whether you can see a black and white circular token at the bottom of the tube. The process repeats until the token is no longer visible, and the volume of water in the tube is then measured.

This illustration is part of a set of simple diagrams and spot illustrations done for the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History. The illustrations were made to be visual learning aids as part of the material given to volunteers in the museum’s Watershed Guardians program, which provides equipment and teaches volunteers how to take and report data about bodies of water (i.e. alkalinity, conductivity, flow rate, etc.) in the Monterey Bay Area.
